Simple Woman's Daybook for March 2018

For March 2018

Looking out my window
I see sunshine which has alluded us for several weeks. The weather has been cold one day and warm the next. I am ready for spring!

I am thinking
How to organize all my crafts projects that are currently UFO's. I need to go through and decide what needs to be undone because it will never be finished. What I want to complete. And what should I tackle next.

I am thankful
How thankful I am for God's blessings. Several things happened in February that not only relieved some issues I have and other problems that have caused me to have a lot of stress. Each time God was there to guide me through the maze.

One of my favorite things
Sitting in my easy chair with the kitty on my lap, yarn project in my hands, and watching a favorite show.

I am creating
I have been in what I call creative hell this month. I have a lot of projects going on and not working on any of them! I have decided that I will go through each one and rate whether I will finish them or not. If not, they are being recycled.
I have been doing crochet, embroidery and weaving. So hopefully I will have some fun new projects to show you next month!

I am wearing
Well, I am not very original LOL! I am wearing a T-shirt and yoga pants. Pretty much my uniform at home!

I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to
I just finished Dan Browns Origin. Once again, a wonderful roller coaster ride of fun! Very thought provoking. I am always out of breath when I get done reading his book as if I had been in a marathon LOL!
We have been watching Altered Carbon on Netflix. We love Sci-Fi. This has been and interesting show with lots of twists and turns.
I also watched The Darkest Hour this weekend. I missed my Mom watching this with me. She told me so much about Winston Churchill (she was a teenager in England during the war). She would be telling us what was right and what they got wrong! LOL! But the take away from this movie and why I mention it is if it wasn't for him, we might be speaking German. All the leaders in England were wanting to surrender to Hitler and were going to meet with Stalin. So HERE HERE for "NEVER SURRENDER!"

I am hoping
That the problems I have been facing these few months finally settle down. I have been really having a rough time and know I will get through it. But some days I just want to say "THAT'S ENOUGH!" LOL. I know God never gives you more than you can handle, but right now I am not so sure!

I am learning
I am trying my hand at Whitework. So far I like it. I am also learning how to crochet cables. This has been a lot of fun. I love LillaBjorn Designs (http://www.lillabjorncrochet.com). She uses a lot of post stitches and I want to make several of her designs.

In my kitchen
I bought an instant pot and have been playing with that. It does have a learning curve, but I know I will use it a lot. One of the recipes I like is Instant Pot oatmeal.
2 cups old fashioned oats
2 cups water
2 cups milk
Place trivet at the bottom of the pot and place a heat resistant bowl on top. Add 1 cup cold water to the bottom of the pan. Cook for 8 min. on pressure cooking setting (don’t forget to set the vent to sealed). After it cooks let it self-vent release for 10 minutes. Release valve to make sure no pressure is left then open the lid. We love this oatmeal and have it every weekend!

This website has so many wonderful patterns for free. There yarn is also very reasonable priced.

My January Daybook

For Today
January 26, 2018

Looking out my window

Another grey day. The temperature is 43 which is high for January. The trees are bare and the snow is gone. I much prefer sunshine.

I am thinking

I really need to set down a plan to work on the house. I am not good at diving in and doing what needs to be done. I will change my mind and do what I would PREFER to do. So I must make a schedule and follow it. It is really kind of a pain, but that is the only thing that helps right now! My mind will protest as it wants to do other things.

I am also thinking how blessed I am.

I am thankful

I am thankful for my job working in Pediatrics. Not everyone has a job that is both rewarding and enjoyable. But I am also thankful for being able to teach weaving to others at the Art Association. It is important to me to make sure we pass on the knowledge of fiber arts and keep them alive for the next generation.

One of my favorite things

Sitting in the recliner with the cat on my lap, working on a project and watching a favorite movie.

I am creating

As usual I am working on too many projects. I am working on weaving mug rugs and crocheting a hat and scarf

I am wearing

My usual weekend winter wear. Long sleeve T-shirt, yoga pants and slippers.

I am reading

House of Spies by Daniel Silva -  I love all of his books. Besides being a fun read he tends to make you realize what is really happening in the world.

I am watching

The Grand Tour - I have loved these guys since the Top Gear days. Always good for a laugh or two.
I have also fell in love with "Better Late Than Never" In my wildest dreams I would not have seen these 4 people together and I laugh watching these guys act like high school boys!

 I am listening to

Right now I am listening to Pandora on shuffle. I love Bluegrass, Classic Rock, Celtic Music, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and blues. So shuffle is a God send to me because I can listen to what I like!

I am hoping

To get my house de-cluttered this year. This will be a work in progress, but it is time to get rid of the things we will never use. As we get older, I know it is going to get harder to take care of this house. I want to pare down now instead of waiting for the last minute,

I am learning

Blackwork embroidery. I love all things historical and this fits the bill perfect.

I am also learning Paleography. What's that? Well it is this: the study of ancient writing systems and the deciphering and dating of historical manuscripts. Some of the old documents cannot be read by software to transfer it to a digital format. This is usually because they are handwritten. It is the paleographers job to transcribe exactly what is on the paper. This is a volunteer project, but it is SO fascinating! Currently I am volunteering for the Smithsonian. But most archive museums are asking for help. It also requires minimum time. 10 minutes here or 30 minutes there.

In my kitchen

Taco Soup (Paula Deen's Taco Soup) and Five Cup Salad (Five Cup Salad - Genius Kitchen). I used to love Jell-O fruit salads and hadn't made one for years. I recently had a taste of the Five Cup Salad and fell in love with it again. So, I had to find the recipe. I think Jason and I polished it off in just a few days LOL.

Board room

Most folks know I am a big fan of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It is now a series on Starz. I love the clothing and we are lucky enough that Terry Dresbach, the costume designer has shared what they did to make some of the costumes. I could never create anything like this, but it sure is fun to dream

Claire, The Gathering. OMG...THIS dress!!! First of all, we had to sort of slam this on the mannequin because everyone is in deep on S2. But, when I look at the dress, I just see a zi...

Jenny of Elefantz Designs
I was looking for embroidery designs and found this website. Not only does she have beautiful patterns for embroidery and applique, but writes wonderful devotions. She lives the life of gentle domesticity and shares how she lives it.
