My January Daybook

For Today
January 26, 2018

Looking out my window

Another grey day. The temperature is 43 which is high for January. The trees are bare and the snow is gone. I much prefer sunshine.

I am thinking

I really need to set down a plan to work on the house. I am not good at diving in and doing what needs to be done. I will change my mind and do what I would PREFER to do. So I must make a schedule and follow it. It is really kind of a pain, but that is the only thing that helps right now! My mind will protest as it wants to do other things.

I am also thinking how blessed I am.

I am thankful

I am thankful for my job working in Pediatrics. Not everyone has a job that is both rewarding and enjoyable. But I am also thankful for being able to teach weaving to others at the Art Association. It is important to me to make sure we pass on the knowledge of fiber arts and keep them alive for the next generation.

One of my favorite things

Sitting in the recliner with the cat on my lap, working on a project and watching a favorite movie.

I am creating

As usual I am working on too many projects. I am working on weaving mug rugs and crocheting a hat and scarf

I am wearing

My usual weekend winter wear. Long sleeve T-shirt, yoga pants and slippers.

I am reading

House of Spies by Daniel Silva -  I love all of his books. Besides being a fun read he tends to make you realize what is really happening in the world.

I am watching

The Grand Tour - I have loved these guys since the Top Gear days. Always good for a laugh or two.
I have also fell in love with "Better Late Than Never" In my wildest dreams I would not have seen these 4 people together and I laugh watching these guys act like high school boys!

 I am listening to

Right now I am listening to Pandora on shuffle. I love Bluegrass, Classic Rock, Celtic Music, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and blues. So shuffle is a God send to me because I can listen to what I like!

I am hoping

To get my house de-cluttered this year. This will be a work in progress, but it is time to get rid of the things we will never use. As we get older, I know it is going to get harder to take care of this house. I want to pare down now instead of waiting for the last minute,

I am learning

Blackwork embroidery. I love all things historical and this fits the bill perfect.

I am also learning Paleography. What's that? Well it is this: the study of ancient writing systems and the deciphering and dating of historical manuscripts. Some of the old documents cannot be read by software to transfer it to a digital format. This is usually because they are handwritten. It is the paleographers job to transcribe exactly what is on the paper. This is a volunteer project, but it is SO fascinating! Currently I am volunteering for the Smithsonian. But most archive museums are asking for help. It also requires minimum time. 10 minutes here or 30 minutes there.

In my kitchen

Taco Soup (Paula Deen's Taco Soup) and Five Cup Salad (Five Cup Salad - Genius Kitchen). I used to love Jell-O fruit salads and hadn't made one for years. I recently had a taste of the Five Cup Salad and fell in love with it again. So, I had to find the recipe. I think Jason and I polished it off in just a few days LOL.

Board room

Most folks know I am a big fan of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It is now a series on Starz. I love the clothing and we are lucky enough that Terry Dresbach, the costume designer has shared what they did to make some of the costumes. I could never create anything like this, but it sure is fun to dream

Claire, The Gathering. OMG...THIS dress!!! First of all, we had to sort of slam this on the mannequin because everyone is in deep on S2. But, when I look at the dress, I just see a zi...
